BLOG
Here's some early samples of a new range of portrait products we're launching in the new year. We're looking at offering something different to the white-background family portraits which have been around for a while now.

We've just launched a new website - www.weddingphotographyyork.com. The intention is to move over to that site at some point, however as it's a Wordpress site, we need to add more functionality, such as the brochure request form, before switching.
We've just added a link to our ever-growing Shutterstock stock image collection. Shutterstock works on a subscription basis, but you also buy our images from istockphoto.com, or direct from us.
If you fancy having a go at selling your own photos, follow this line and create an account -
Submit Photos to Shutterstock and make $$$!
Had fun in Blackpool today, with Rachel. This is the sort of fashion portrait we're doing more of. More intesting than studio portraits, thought you're at the mercy of the weather!

Scorchio today, and very sunny - makes for challenging outdoor shots!
The ceremony was at Thirsk's St Mary's, with the reception at The Angel.

I can't take credit for this shot - good though it is, however it was me riding - my first bash at hill climbing, as Scarborough's Oliver's Mount

Today we had Sian and Robert's wedding, at St Olave's church in York, followed by the magnificent Merchant Adventurers' Hall. Quite a logistical, given it was race day, and there were other weddings in the area, but well worth the effort!

Burnsall has to be one of the country's prettiest spots, and perfect for a summer wedding. The heavens opened 10 minutes after we finished shooting - I seem to be rather lucky with the weather at the moment!

Another TA shoot today - this time for the officer's at the gorgeous Aldwark Manor.

Did an interesting shoot at Strensall Barracks (all of 3 minutes away!) today, for the Territorial Army's group photo. If only wedding group shoots could be organised with such precision - and without me having to say a word!

Sarah and Gary's turn today, with their wedding in Knaresborough. I don't think I've ever know a bride smile so much!

after 2 weeks of rain, finally summer arrives.
and the car air con fails.
Still, got to make the most of it!
Took the family to Appletreewick and Burnsall, for a splash about, and to re-do some photos which have soled well since our last visits.

Used some parked Haley Davidsons for some arty shots. Not my cup of tea as a bike, but as a piece of design they're up their with the iPod.
I really couldn't be bothered polishing all that chrome!

I've much pontification, I decided to go back to my old website host. The old one looked great, but beinf Flash based, is hopeless for Google, and doesn't work well on older system and basic web devices.
I'll be keeping a close eye on Google Analytics to see if was the right choice!

Some more doggy portraits today.

Always fun to do, but you only get a few seconds with such a young dog.

Went to support my dad racing at Oliver's Mount near Scarborough today.
Annoyingly he was the first to run in his class, so each time they called for them to go to the start, I had to leg it up the hill and try to elbow my way in to the crown.
Anyway, burnt a few callories, and got some decent pics.
My daughter, on Grandad's bike

My Dad...

Decided to get my licence and have a go myself next time!
A week away gave me a good oportunity for some pics of Oscar in action, and Holly of course!

Karen and Nick's turn today, as the gorgeous Monk Fryston Hall.
Dubious weather - again - but a light shower isn't enough to dampen the spirits - at least not once the bar's open.

Is there anything less predictable than the weather in March?
I thought we might get away with it today - the sun kept popping out, but alas no, seconds after leaving the registry office with the newly married Kathryn and Gary, the spitting started, and soon it was pesisting it down.
Still, the bride kept her sense of humour, which makes all the difference, and we managed a good range of shots.

Welcome to Oscar, our lovely new 11 month old black labrador.
Not a great photo - will get him in the studio soon!

Yes, that's right, for the first time in years I bought a compact. Not just any compact of course, Canon's top of the range G10. It has 14.7 mega pixels, which is actually more than the 5D I use for weddings, though as the sensor is far smaller, I'm not expecting miracles.
So why bother? Simply. A 5D with e decent lens weight several kilos, and take up a fair bit of room. So I find I don't take it out unless I'm on a shoot, or going somewhere I'd expect to get some good shots.
Compacts aren't much use in low light, as the noise generated degrades the image quality too much to be sellable, however in good light they can produce very good shots.
The G10 also shoots RAW (unprocessed and uncompressed images), which suits me fine, and can be used entirely in manual mode.
So now I've no excuse for getting photos whereever I go. I'll post some examples up here.
Did a massage / reiki shoot today with the lovely Rachelle. this services 2 purposes - proving some images for my wife's business (http://www.yorkmassage.com/), and a wide range of photos to sell at stock. And if they don'tsell I'll eat my hat!

It's been a weekend of kids, with several family shoots on. 4 adults and 3 kids is REALLY pushing the boundaries of the studio - not to mention my skills!
I regularly shoot in the studio, and increasingly outdoors with wireless flash, but I love natural light shots. I snapped this as the family was getting ready to go, with the young chap getting too tired to bounce (or even crawl) around the studio.
You need a top-notch, fast lense for shots like this (if you can ever shoot these with a camera phone I'll eat my laptop!)

Trash the Dress. an interesting concept, which elicits a very different response from brides as from their mothers.
Basically, it's about getting the most of your dress - and indeed being a bride. Get out there, places you would go on your wedding day, an have some fun!

Well it's been a hectic couple of weeks, sorting out advertising, and launching a new business idea.
It was nice to get away from the PC for a while today, with another trip to the Lakes.

4x4 definately has it's uses. 'there's a nice view - we'll park in that snow-drift'.
Anyway, I couldn't resist shooting these two scraggy specimens. They looked rather disappointed when we didn't have any food to offer them.
Snowball fights are a gift for good children shots.
I spent today trailing round a very cold York, with the lovely Rachelle. Thankfully models are made of tough stuff...

This was a challenging one - lt only by a single sodium bulb. just about got away with it!

I'm a social photographer, based in York. I mainly shoot weddings and portraits, but also shoot stock, commercial, and when time permits (and I can get out of bed early enough!) landscapes.
I thought it'd be useful to move my blog away from my website (http://www.bestside.co.uk/), so here goes.
There's a lot going round in my brain, so I don't intend just posting to constantly say how brilliant I am!
